FAST-SCULPTURE+FILM Workshop with Anssi Kasitonni

26 Feb 2025 2-5pm

Beaconsfield
London SE11 6AY

Overview

Artist Anssi Kasitonni (b. VilppulaFinland,1978) wryly describes himself as the ‘country cousin of Jeff Koons’. He makes epic homespun films and sculptures which reference popular culture and are filled with humour. The recipient of the 2025 Below Zero Finnish Art Award, and a former winner of Finland’s Ars Fennica Prize, Kasitonni is a well-known figure on the Finnish art scene. Now he brings his DIY aesthetic of crafting fast-sculptures from lo-fi materials glamourised in chrome, from rural Finland to the UK for the first time.

His new show, 'Gentle Means and Easy Tasks' will open on 6 March following a six-week Beaconsfield residency. During his residency, Kasitonni is creating a new sculpture that ironically reimagines the grand pediment which once crowned the original neoclassical portico of the former Lambeth Ragged Schools – which has been occupied by Beaconsfield Contemporary Art since 1995.

Workshop participants should wear work clothes, expect to get their hands dusty, engage in moral dilemmas and have fun!
