Habitable Climes: Kristina Chan

Overview

Habitable Climes is a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Kristina Chan and the second exhibition in The Sunderland Collection’s recently launched Art Programme. Habitable Climes includes a new body of work by Chan that responds to a selection of rare antique world and celestial maps from The Sunderland Collection and two recent expeditions to the Arctic Circle via the Svalbard Channel  and the Nevada Desert. The artist faced contrasting landscapes and climates during these trips, leading to feelings of both ‘awe and caution’ as expressed by the artist.

Working across photography and printmaking, and the science - and artistry - behind mark-making, Chan continues to explore the relationship between the two processes, their relationship to site-specificity and truth, to memory, time and space.
