Sonic Repurposing Workshop: OpnireNatacolClompex (Remix)

19 Mar 2025 6.30-8pm

Gasworks
London SE11 5RH

Overview

OpnireNatacolClompex (Remix) is a participatory workshop inviting audiences to explore experimental and DIY approaches to the experience of sound. Led by sound artist and Gasworks studio holder Lexy Morvaridi, the workshop explores themes of repurposing, reinterpretation and reinvention through collective sampling and sounding. Considering the tactile and material qualities of sound, the workshop allows participants to transform everyday objects and sound samples into tools of agency and self-expression.

Drawing inspiration from Tanat Teeradakorn’s ongoing research into cross-cultural hybrid sounds, the workshop invites participants to engage sonically with the artworks in his Gasworks exhibition, National Opera Complex. Using found sounds, voice recordings, and personal samples, participants will collaboratively create a sound collage and reflect on the contextual, idiosyncratic and sociopolitical elements that constitute sound as a vessel for shared and personal histories to unravel.

Participants will intervene in the space as a performative site, re-processing, manipulating and subverting the sonic properties of their surroundings. The activation of bodies, voices and object-sounds will culminate in a hybridised sound piece that reflects on resistance and subversion through sonic experimenting.

No experience necessary.

OpnireNatacolClompex (Remix) is curated by soft shock (Goldsmiths MFA Curating students Júlia Polo and Georgie Worth).
