The genre-defying artist Es Devlin is known for her large scale public art works and stage sculptures combining light, music and language. Her participatory sculptures have been seen by millions across the globe and her work featured at Tate Modern, V&A, Serpentine, Imperial War Museum, Superblue Miami, and the Lincoln Center, as well as kinetic stage designs at the Royal Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Ballet, La Scala, and the National Theatre. She was the subject of the Netflix documentary ‘Abstract: the Art of Design’, and has been awarded multiple Olivier, Tony and Emmy awards, as well as an Ivor Novello award and a CBE.
During the evening Es will discuss the genesis of her work and explore her thirty-year archive as detailed in her extraordinary first monograph, An Atlas of Es Devlin, a unique, sculptural volume documenting her practice. Encompassing art, activism, theatre, poetry, music, dance, opera and sculpture, this magisterial first monograph is a testament to the complexity and ambition of Devlin’s work.
