Get to know our artists in residence at this free event offering visitors a unique opportunity to see, hear about and discuss the research and work-in-progress that the artists have been developing over the past three months. You will also have the opportunity to meet our participation artist, who started their 8-month residency in October!
Gideon Gomo’s practice is centred around conveying the events and situations of daily life in Harare. His sculptures and assemblages reveal the hidden and ignored voices of society and are infused with ritual, fantasy, and dreamlike qualities.
Luis Enrique Zela-Koort is an artist and researcher interested in technological biases. Working across varied media, they bring together ideas from science, mythology and identity to conceptualise new worlds and to challenge binary modes of thought.
Micha Serraf’s practice seeks to rewrite the trauma of displacement, by embracing memories of celebration, spiritual connection and childhood wonder. Through sculpture, weaving and photography, his work is rooted in explorations of personal and ancestral experience.
Sorawit Songsataya’s practice draws from the complex belief systems of the artist’s home countries, Thailand and New Zealand, to reveal the dynamic interrelations within the natural world that we exist in. Their recent digital and hands-on work with Ōamaru limestone has introduced them to local communities in Te Waipounamu, New Zealand, as well as Thailand’s architectural elements and cultural objects.
José García Oliva is a multidisciplinary, research-based artist, born and raised in Venezuela and based in London. The foundation of his work is based on creating platforms and facilitating activities to explore the intricate connections between migrant labour, diasporic identity, and oppressive systemic structures.
Video interviews of the artists discussing their recent projects and research will be available on our website for those who are unable to visit.
