Alma Pearl is a gallery devoted to exhibiting the work of artists established and emerging who, through the qualities of their work and practice, deserve greater exposure. At the core of its inception is an aim to reposition a gallery as a conduit for community building, both amongst artists and at a local and global level. Sustainability–for both our climate and planet as well as an artist’s practice–is central to all aspects of Alma Pearl.
Alma Pearl believes in the urgent power art possesses to make a difference, be a force for good, and enrich the lives of all those who make and experience its power, irrespective of race, gender and class. Alma Pearl is committed to fostering inclusive and equitable communities both in a physical and online space and believes that everybody should have equal access to creating and engaging with contemporary art.
The gallery opened in April 2023 with two iterations of an ongoing series of shows titled 'Positions', curated by writer and critic John Slyce. It followed a solo exhibition by emerging artist Jhonatan Pulido, whose abstract paintings explore and engage with the residue of conflict in his native Colombia. Margarita Gluzberg's solo exhibition 'Otherwhere' showcased works where the artist used vintage pastels from the 60’ and 70’ to negotiate the present as well as the past alongside her contrasting experiences of East and West. In December 2023, the gallery took part in Untitled Art, Miami Beach with a curated presentation of works by Victoria Cantons, Margarita Gluzberg, Emily Moore and the artist duo Cullinan Richards. The booth was signaled out amongst the best curated booths celebrating the curatorial focus of the fair "Gender Equality in the Arts”.
