Youthful opportunities: photographing for The Face in the 1990s with Elaine Constantine
3 Apr 2025 1-2pm

As part of our public programme of events for The Face Magazine: Culture Shift, join BAFTA nominated writer, director and photographer, Elaine Constantine, as she outlines what it was like to photograph for The Face magazine throughout the 1990s.
From unemployment in Lancashire in the 1980s to her successful career in fashion and advertising, Elaine’s talk will consider how her experience informed her transition to writer and director and how her love of soul music would see her go on to create a box office top ten film.
Elaine will discuss in detail her editorial photography, the process used to gather inspiration for ideas, her thoughts on fashion photography and its limitations, battles over casting, the collaborative process and, her experience of becoming one of The Face’s most recognised and recognisable photographers.
This event is part of the public programme for The Face Magazine: Culture Shift. Led by photographers, models, musicians, stylists and experts who worked with The Face during the 80s, 90s and through to current day, don’t miss the fascinating programme of talks, workshops and performance, inspired by the iconic and era-defining magazine.
