Gathering to the call of Simnikiwe Buhlungu’s hygrosummons (iter.01), Kin Structures (artists Arman Nouri and Kwame Lowe) invite you on a ramble around the canals of Bow, where they will be sharing the beginnings of a new project about local water infrastructures in Tower Hamlets.
The project continues the artists’ practice of revealing the infrastructural conditions in ‘forgotten places’ shaped by organised abandonment and signals a growing interest in the performance and staging of cultural expression.
Join us for a spacious afternoon walking and talking along the banks of the local canals, led by Nouri and Lowe. The afternoon will begin with an introduction to Simnikiwe Buhlungu’s exhibition at Chisenhale Gallery by Curator of Social Practice, Seth Pimlott, and end at the Soanes Centre in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, a site the artists are currently co-stewarding, with more space and time for chatting and connecting.
Kin Structures are working alongside local charity Setpoint London East at the Soanes Centre to protect the at-risk space and ensure it remains a home for community-led learning, art and play for generations to come.
Start Location: Chisenhale Gallery, E3 5QZ
End Location: Soanes Centre, Tower Hamlets Cemetery park, E3 4PX
