Friday Lates: Obsidian x The National Gallery

17 Nov 2023 7.30-8.15pm

The National Gallery
London WC2N 5DN

Overview

Founded in 2020, Obsidian Foundation is an international organisation committed to cultivating the artistic and professional growth of Black poets.

Over the course of this evening, a range of invited poets will work with award-winning British Nigerian poet and writer Theresa Lola to creatively respond to paintings in our collection through a range of writing activities. Their work will explore 'gazing', an act beyond just looking, rather an active experience for a viewer, making use of Anthony van Dyck’s paintings to consider how we might inhabit these pictorial spaces.

Join them in the gallery to hear this poetry performed for the first time, surrounded by the paintings that inspired them.
