“O rose, cut in rock” brings together works by five exciting, emerging, female artists from across the UK including Carol Douglas, Sophie Harding, Polly Bennett, and Vivien Thomason. Ranging from painting to sculpture, these works are inspired by the home, for the home. This is art that celebrates beauty, playfulness, and comfort.
Passionate about finding dwellers and dreamers art to fall in love with, sacks & bird has curated this exhibition in the hope of pulling apart the antiquated and hierarchical distinctions between fine and decorative arts, between the domestic sphere and the white cube, between the artist and the viewer.
Like HD’s rose, we honour the home as a site and source of strength, resistance, contemplation, reflection, dreaming and memory.
