Overview

Cecilia Brunson Projects presents a solo presentation by Ukrainian-born artist Janet Sobel, one of the unsung pioneers of Abstract Expressionism, preceding a major retrospective of Sobel at the Menil Collection Houston in 2024. A woman in her 50s, she confounded preconceptions of a mid-century American modernist yet Sobel was the first to use the iconic drip technique, now synonymous with the new wave of post war abstraction.
