Overview

Please join us on Wednesday 5th April, from 7pm, for a conversation between artist Mohammed Z. Rahman and writer and broadcaster Kavita Puri, taking place within Rahman's solo exhibition City of Burrows.

Mohammed Z. Rahman is a British-Bengali painter, zinemaker and illustrator based in London. His work tackles food, migration and gender, often from domestic perspectives. With a background in social anthropology, Mohammed approaches his practice as both an intimate and political force. Mohammed’s 2022 work Unfurnished was exhibited at Kingsgate Project Space, London, as part of the Brent Biennial 2022, In the House of my Love, curated by Eliel Jones and produced by Metroland Cultures. As part of the Biennial, Mohammed also provided illustrations for its visual identity. In 2021, he undertook an artist’s residency at the Apocalypse Reading Room, London, curated by Ama Josephine Budge and supported by Artsadmin.

Kavita Puri is an award-winning journalist, executive producer and broadcaster for the BBC. She devised, wrote and presented the landmark three-part Radio 4 series Partition Voices, marking the 70th anniversary of the partition of India. Based on the series, Partition Voices: Untold British Stories was published in 2019 by Bloomsbury and is currently being adapted for the stage at the Donmar Warehouse in a co-production with Tara Theatre for September. Puri writes and presents the Radio 4 series Three Pounds in My Pocket, charting the social history of British South Asians from the post-war years, currently in its fifth season.
