Initiated during Rana Begum’s residency in Beirut, No. 207 is rooted in her observation of the urban milieu, the aesthetic possibilities of the city and the implications of architectural modernism. The glowing modular superstructure is composed exclusively of drinking straws. Its fluorescence evokes Beirut’s buzzing night scene, and the convoluted shapes recall the chaotic maze of a metropolis. No. 207 invades the gallery space and transforms the overpowering associations of urban debasement into poetic entities.
