With Bassam el Baroni, Wael Shawky, Mo Nabil, Céline Condorelli and more. After Damascus (2009) and Tehran (2010), our third stop, Alexandria, focuses on emerging artistic practices and networks in Egypt’s second largest city. The programme will explore the recent cultural and social trajectory of this Mediterranean city, steeped in history yet shaped by current events. Artists, writers and curators will discuss youth and popular culture, generational divides, education and cultural strategies in the making of contemporary Alexandria. More information on individual events available on our website. Part of Shubbak: A Window on Contemporary Arab Culture, a festival presented by the Mayor of London.
