Overview

Frank Stella (born 1936) is unarguably one of the most important American artists of the last fifty years. In September, Haunch of Venison will present an exhibition looking at the Stella’s long and extraordinarily diverse career. Having never had a major show in London, this exhibition will attempt to render a comprehensive and definitive reading of Stella’s achievement. The show will feature a careful selection of works that gives a sense of the breadth of Stella’s practice, including significant examples of work from some but not all phases of his career. The works will be brought together in broad thematic groupings which will explore Stella’s formal concerns – with plane, space and relief, colour and movement, the possibilities of painting and architecture – with the aim of bringing the complexity of Stella’s vision to a new audience in a way that is focused and clear.
