CERITH WYN EVANS

17 Sep-9 Nov 2014

Serpentine
London W2 3XA (Serpentine South), W2 2AR (Serpentine North)

Overview

The Serpentine presents Cerith Wyn Evans, a site-specific installation at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery. Encompassing sculpture, photography, film and text, alongside new work created especially for the Gallery’s vaults and spaces, the exhibition will provide a unique insight into the artist’s multifaceted practice. Cerith Wyn Evans began his career as a video and filmmaker assisting Derek Jarman, and his own experimental film work from the 1980s often featured collaborations with dancers and musicians, such as Michael Clark and Throbbing Gristle. The influence of film remains palpable throughout his career, made visible in works that reveal a preoccupation with light and temporality. His work has been exhibited extensively in Europe and Asia and this, his first major solo show in London in almost a decade, will examine the transformative effect that light, space, sound and duration can have on both spaces and individuals.
