On the weekend of 18 and 19 October the Extinction Marathon, the ninth in the Serpentine’s series of annual Marathon events, brings together artists, writers, scientists, film-makers, choreographers, theorists and musicians to explore the complex and timely topic of extinction through talks, conversations, performances and screenings. Impacting both the humanities and the sciences, the spectre of extinction looms over the ways in which we understand our world today. In response, artists and writers embed these concerns into their creative endeavours. Both an overview and a call to action, the two day event invites us to respond, together, to a changing world, considering visions of the future with all their scientific, artistic and literary ramifications. The Marathon will take place at The Magazine at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery and in the Serpentine Pavilion. Tickets will be available for sale in September.
