Lina Lapelytė

b. 1984, Lithuania

Lina Lapelytė’s (b.1984, works in Vilnius and London) performance-based practice is rooted in music and flirts with pop culture, gender stereotypes, and nostalgia. Her works engage trained and untrained performers often in an act of singing through a wide range of genres such as mainstream music and opera. The singing takes the form of a collective and affective event that questions vulnerability and silencing.

Lapelytė holds a BA in classical violin, a BA in Sound Arts, and an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art, London.

In 2019 her collaborative work Sun & Sea (Marina) made together with Vaiva Grainytė and Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, curated by Lucia Pietroiusti won the Golden Lion award at the Venice Biennale.

In 2020 Lapelytė received the national art and culture prize in Lithuania.
