KARST was founded in 2012 by artists inspired by the British Art Show 7, who wanted to develop an artist-led space in Plymouth to produce and show the best international contemporary art. In less than a decade, we’ve grown to become the most ambitious gallery in the South West with a reputation for being edgy, dynamic and challenging.
We’re based in an iconic industrial building, but we think beyond our walls and invite projects from anywhere where art, ideas, and life meet. Our space affords time to think and ask questions. It’s an experimental workshop, a safe place to take risks, a place for ambitions beyond defined outcomes. It’s also an incubator for new talent.
We believe art has a transformative power, and we play our part in shaping the cultural identity of our city. We will ensure we all hear the voices of underrepresented members of our society. Our passion is to help grow the individual and sector through inclusivity, inspiration, creativity, and experimentation. Our ambition is to be sustainable, to achieve rigorous quality, and to be the best we possibly can in all we do.
