Linder: Danger Came Smiling Panel Discussion

21 Mar 2025 7-8pm

Hayward Gallery
London SE1 8XX

Overview

Join us for a panel discussion with authors and art critics, including leading art historian Dawn Adès, as they delve into the provocative world of Linder’s art.

This panel explores Linder’s feminist critique, the reworking of images through her photomontage technique, and how her liberating cuts restore agency to the models she uses.

Linder: Danger Came Smiling is Linder’s first London retrospective, showcasing 50 years of the pioneering feminist artist’s work, which touches on a wealth of themes from music to dance, fashion to fairytales, dissecting our fascination with the body and its representation.

Dawn Adès is a Fellow of the British Academy, a former trustee of Tate, Professor of History of Art at the Royal Academy and was awarded a CBE in 2013 for her services to art history. She has written extensively on Dada, Surrealism, photography and women artists. Publications include Dada and Surrealism Reviewed, Writings on Art and Anti-Art and Photomontage. She has been responsible for some of the most important exhibitions in London and overseas over the past thirty years, including Dada and Surrealism Reviewed, Art in Latin America and Francis Bacon.
