Burned House Horizon looks at the Neolithic civilisation Cucuteni-Trypillia to process trauma in the present via contemporary myths, rituals, ancestral healing & speculative fiction. This civilisation inhabited present-day Ukraine, Romania and Moldova, creating pottery and anthropomorphic figurines connected to the veneration of land, solar-lunar cycles and goddess-centered spirituality. Mysteriously, they cyclically burned their settlements, leaving behind only sculptures: Burned House Horizon is named after this phenomenon.
The exhibition acts as a time capsule where artists from across the globe and the public are invited to see themselves as ‘future ancestors’ who leave gestures and traces for the future. The exhibition moves through experiences of homelessness, displacement and (forced) migration alongside the transformative potential of home-making, kinship formation and land-based spirituality from a queer perspective.
