Holly Davey: The Unforgetting

Overview

Since 2019 Holly Davey has been making a body of work under the title A Script for an Archive, which includes photography, collage, sculpture, text and performance. Interested in ‘what is happening at the edges’ of archives and in the figures (often women) who have been marginalised in the historical record, Davey works to look again at the overlooked, ‘re-seeing’ women whose stories could and should be part of what we know.

In 2022, we invited Davey to work with Fruitmarket’s archive. This led to her following research threads across Edinburgh’s collections and archives including those at Edinburgh College of Art, City Art Centre, Royal Scottish Academy and National Galleries of Scotland. From this research, Davey will give voice to the ‘silent’ parts of Fruitmarket’s archive, finding creative potential in its gaps and omissions.
