The Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize returns for its 17th year, showcasing the work of talented young photographers, gifted amateurs and established professionals in the very best of contemporary photography.
The competition celebrates a diverse range of images and tells the fascinating stories behind the creation of works, from formal commissioned portraits to more spontaneous and intimate moments capturing friends and family.
The annual In Focus display will also highlight new work by an established photographer.
The 2024 edition will see the unveiling of a new work for the Gallery’s Collection, created by 2023’s commission prize winner, Serena Brown.
Four photographers have been shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2024, selected by a panel of judges from 4,847 entries, submitted by 1,713 photographers. The four shortlisted photographers are:
Adam Ferguson for Hunting trip, Wirrimanu/ Balgo, Kukatja Country, Western Australia; Pintupi-Luritja Lutheran Pastor Simon Dixon, Ikuntji/Haast Bluff, Arrernte Country, Northern Territory; and Cousin sisters Shauna and Bridget Perdjert, Kardu Thithay Diminin Clan and Murrinhpatha language group, Kardu Yek Diminin Country, Air Force Hill, Wadeye, Northern Territory – all from the series Big Sky.
