Overview

Ekow Eshun is a curator, writer and broadcaster. His work stretches the span of identity, style, art and culture.

As Chairman of the commissioning group for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, he leads one of the world’s most famous public art projects. In July 2022, Ekow curated In the Black Fantastic at the Hayward Gallery in London, a landmark exhibition of visionary Black artists exploring myth, science fiction and Afrofuturism. His current exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery in London, The Time is Always Now, is a major study of the Black figure – and its representation in contemporary art.

Sharon Walters' solo exhibition Seeing Ourselves opened this month at HackelBury. The exhibition features work from the ongoing series, in which Walters creates intricate hand-assembled collages honouring Black Women - their history, culture and identity.

This event is part of London Gallery Weekend, which will take place May 31st - June 2nd.
