The New Art Gallery Walsall is delighted to present a major exhibition of new and previously unseen work by Barcelona-based artist, Carlos Bunga (b. 1976, Porto, Portugal).
The exhibition draws on the artist’s background as a migrant and includes early video works, drawings and specially commissioned sculptures that refer to the artist’s childhood experience of social housing and his concept of a house as a place with great capacity to condition our psyche and movements.
Bunga has a longstanding interest in the built environment and is internationally renowned for his large-scale, site-specific architectural installations made from humble materials such as cardboard, tape and household paint. To accompany this major exhibition, Bunga will create a site-specific installation composed of cardboard columns and other architectural forms for the Gallery’s street-facing window box, a temporary environment alluding to the often-precarious nature of physical constructs.
