Composer Evan Zierk and animator Filip Kostic join Aria Dean for a new version of the film that they will develop in real-time during the performance, followed by a panel discussion.
In this special finissage event, composer Evan Zierk and animator Filip Kostic join Aria Dean for a new version of the film Abattoir, U.S.A.! that they will develop in real-time during the performance. This is the first time since collaborating on the film installation that Aria, Evan and Filip will experiment with the essentially variable nature of a work created within the real-time environment enabled by Unreal Engine.
The performance will allow the artists to play with the impossibility of the camera’s action and its implication for the subject, flitting between these points of view. Using the ICA Theatre’s new d&b Soundscape, Evan will further develop the score as a diegetic real-time sound landscape, experimenting with audience's perception of sounds and actions occurring within the world of the film. Driving this new presentation of Abattoir, U.S.A.! is Aria’s exploration of the relationship between realism and the virtual nature of the work.
The performance will be followed by a panel discussion with Aria, Evan, and Filip on their collaborative process and the nature of creating work together in a real-time environment, with a chance for questions from the audience.
