Collection Partnership with the Royal Academy of Music

24 Apr 2024 6.30-8pm

Royal Academy of Music
London NW1 5HT

Overview

The Roberts Institute of Art (RIA) and the Royal Academy of Music, London are collaborating on a project that will result in five new pieces of music responding to works in the David and Indrė Roberts Collection. The project will culminate with a live public performance of the compositions at the Academy, performed by their fellow students.

Venue: The Royal Academy of Music, Angela Burgess Recital Hall

Young composers at the Royal Academy of Music will work with RIA to select collection works which they will use as a departure point for new compositions that will be performed live on 24 April 2024. Developed over eight months through workshops, studio visits and conversations with artists, their compositions will draw on the themes, moods and ideas of their selected artwork, offering their personal reflections on the work through music.

This partnership is an inspiring opportunity for Masters students from the Royal Academy of Music to respond and interpret contemporary artworks, while also providing new perspectives on the collection.

Artworks from a diverse set of artists have been chosen by the students, including Jonathan Baldock, Rachel Kneebone, Hannah Quinlan and Rosie Hastings, Indrė Serpytyte and Anj Smith.
