A Time of Her Own- launch

15 May 2024

The Hellenic Centre
London W1U 5AS

Overview

Join us for the launch of A Time of Her Own, an online, interactive, platform that integrates female portraits retrieved from archival material, published in the Greek press during the 1970s and 1980s, along with photographs derived from personal collections and family photo albums from the same decades.

Political and personal shelves are intertwined, producing new, ephemeral and unexpected outcomes. The experience of these infinite combinations in the form of diptychs, attempts to create relations and challenge notions of the public and the private and eventually allow different readings to emerge: when and how do the feminist political and social narratives go hand in hand with the personal experience? In what ways do public demands and struggles become visible in everyday life? How is the female subject narrated collectively and how is it through individual memory? How was she in her own time?

Join the project’s creator Zoe Hatziyannaki and curator Christina Petkopoulou and have the chance to interact with the project.

This event is supported by the Greek Ministry of Culture and the American College of Greece, Frances Rich School of Fine & Performing Arts.
