Join Danielle Brathwaite–Shirley for an artist-led afternoon of gameplay, testing and feedback. This informal gaming salon will provide an opportunity to collectively play some of Brathwaite-Shirley’s favourite video games alongside the artist’s new commission THE REBIRTHING ROOM.
Alongside THE REBIRTHING ROOM, games will include Death Stranding PS4, Resident Evil 4 Oculus Quest, King's Field PS1, Final Fantasy XV PS4, Season: A Letter to the Future PS4, Wii Sports Wii and Cruelty Squad PC.
Gaming sessions will take place in The Studio and the Gallery.
Marking the end of Brathwaite-Shirley’s year-long residency at Studio Voltaire, THE REBIRTHING ROOM demonstrates the artist’s ongoing research into the history of gaming, its role as an art form, pathfinder and educational tool. Brathwaite-Shirley’s works across animation, sound, performance, and video game development, intertwining lived experience with fiction to imaginatively archive and retell the stories of Black and Brown Trans people - those living, those that have passed and those that have been forgotten.
