'You are invited to be guided through a re-birth. This is not a passive presentation. This is a participatory performance, in which your actions will determine what happens.
You may feel uncomfortable.'
Danielle Brathwaite–Shirley presents a new performance at Studio Voltaire in response to the artist’s major commission THE REBIRTHING ROOM. The decisions taken by the audience will influence the direction and narrative of performance, during which participants are invited to be transformed and reborn.
Marking the end of Brathwaite-Shirley’s year-long residency at Studio Voltaire, THE REBIRTHING ROOM demonstrates the artist’s ongoing research into the history of gaming, its role as an art form, pathfinder and educational tool. Brathwaite-Shirley’s works across animation, sound, performance, and video game development, intertwining lived experience with fiction to imaginatively archive and retell the stories of Black and Brown Trans people - those living, those that have passed and those that have been forgotten.
