Tuesday Walkthrough: Dora Budor

30 Apr 2024 12-1pm

Nottingham Contemporary

Overview

Join us for a Tuesday Walkthrough – a gallery tour where artists, experts, researchers and academics give short talks in their field of expertise relating to the concepts explored in our exhibition.

In Galleries 3 & 4, we are currently presenting Dora Budor: Again - the first institutional exhibition in the UK by the New York-based Croatian-born artist, Dora Budor. The exhibition features a series of newly commissioned works concerned with techniques of the built environment and the various forms of psychosocial control induced by it.

In this walkthrough, artist, sculptor and bio-materials specialist at the School of Art and Design, Nottingham Trent University, Katharina Fitz, will explore the themes of Budor's exhibition in relation to her own work, particularly talking about HOW the work means, rather than WHAT it means. Katharina will considering the materials used, shape, and the way it relates to us and the gallery space, through the lens of a sculptor with a specific interest in architecture, space, materials and process.
Katharina Fitz is an Austrian-born artist currently based in Nottingham. She earned her BA in Photography and Film from the Sant Ignasi Insitute in Barcelona in 2008 and completed her MFA at Nottingham Trent University in 2019. The same year, she was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries and won the One Thoresby Street Production Award as part of the NAE Open. In 2020 she had her first solo show titled 'When Seams Become Audible' at One Thoresby Street, was chosen for the Gilbert Bayes Sculpture Award, organised by the Royal Society for Sculptors and selected for the 'New Editions Series' by London Bronze. In 2021 she received the DYCP grant by the Arts Council, realised her first commission 'Catch and Release' showcased at LCB Depot in Leicester and was selected as one of the winners of the Ingram Prize. She published a monograph with Beam Editions in 2021 and is currently working towards her first institutional solo show in Austria.
