A vibrant display of new art and textiles from the Whitworth’s collection.
The Whitworth holds an outstanding collection of over 60,000 items, across art, textiles, and wallpaper. This display presents over 20 recent additions alongside existing collection works to reflect on the history of the collection and share our vision for its future.
Spanning from the 1490s to 2021, the display consists of paintings, photography, prints, drawings, as well as stitched, printed and woven textiles. It reflects the increasing diversity of the Whitworth’s collection, as we work to expand understandings of identity, place, creative expression, and global art histories.
Highlights include works by Artpro Art Initiative, Simeon Barclay, William Blake, Li Yuan-chia, Lucienne Day, Althea McNish, Jade Montserrat, Yasmin Jahan Nupur, Marcantonio Ramondi, and the ABC Wax Archive, the last surviving industrial design archive of a Manchester textile printing company.
