Morris Hirshfield is one of the greats of American art history. His astonishing paintings captivated the likes of gallerists Sidney Janis and Alfred Barr, the director of MoMA who graced Hirshfield with a solo show in 1943.
On Tuesday 31st October, The Gallery of Everything welcomes American scholar and curator Richard Meyer for an illustrated talk on Morris Hirshfield and how this self-taught emigré tailor and slipper manufacturer was fêted by the likes of Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Peggy Guggenheim and others.
Meyer is the award-winning author of Master of the Two Left Feet, the biography of Hirshfield which was listed in the New Yorker’s Best Books of 2022, and accompanied the critically-acclaimed Hirshfield retrospectives at the American Folk Art Museum (NY) and Stanford University (CA).
