Join Vanley Burke, the godfather of Black British photography, for a lively and enriching evening of music, reminiscence and conversation with V&A Senior Curator Dr Christine Checinska.
Vanley will share stories about his creative life as a photographer, artist and collector of everyday things that map the history of the Black presence in Britain. He will speak about why we must write our histories ourselves, drawing on his own memories of arriving in Britain as a child, picking up a camera for the first time, and gathering the first objects that would become the foundation of the Vanley Burke Archive.
The evening includes an introduction to and an opportunity to view the display Between Two Worlds: Vanley Burke and Francis Williams.
