7 September, 7 pm: In Search of the Miraculous: films and dialogue.
5 – 8 September, 11 – 5: Richard Wilson RA: Warship-Worship 2023
You are invited to an evening on Thursday 7 September reflecting on In Search of the Miraculous,
an event which took place in late May 2023 in the village of Walsingham, Norfolk.
This village, which is known for a miraculous happening in 1061 and previously as a sacred Roman site, provides a unique context for artists. Thousands of people visit the village on pilgrimages every year. The audience for this event became ‘pilgrims’, led through the village, encountering performances, actions, demonstrations, films, exhibitions and installation, creating a basis for shared dialogue, conviviality and reflection ‘in search of the miraculous’.
7.00 pm: The space will open at for viewing Warship-Worship.
7.15: Performance by Ansuman Biswas.
7.30: Films by Anne Bean and Oona Grimes commissioned for the project.
8.00: In Search of the Miraculous, documentary film of the weekend by Studio MaBa.
To conclude the evening, there will be a conversation between Anne Bean, Oona Grimes, Joseph Schofield and Richard Wilson, chaired by Jane England.
Warship-Worship 2023, a work by Richard Wilson RA, commissioned and exhibited in Walsingham as part of In Search of the Miraculous, will be on view in the gallery space during the week, accompanied by related drawings.
• England & Co will be in residence at the Sotheran’s Building until the end of March 2024.
