Jackie Case: The ATM Project

27 Jun-2 Jul 2023

Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery
London W1T 6BA

Overview

The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery presents Jackie Case’s new show, The ATM Project, running from 27 June - 2 July. The exhibition combines new graphite works by the Melbourne-based artist together with a performance piece, Art Transfer Matrix. The ATM project will showcase a range of Case’s meticulously wrought small-scale pencil drawings. Alongside these graphic works, Case’s demonstration of her Art Transfer Matrix will prompt questions about artistic agency and identity in the contemporary world.

Jackie Case trained in graphic deisgn at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. While still a student, Case began creating intriguing drawings of figures and animals tinged with a surreal fancy. These works were displayed initially in cafes around Melbourne, and quickly developed a cult following. Since then, she has exhibited her work in art galleries all over the world. Case invites the viewer into an unexpected world of animals swathed in knitwear, wide-eyed figures clutching balloons, and filligree trees etched against the sky.

Jackie Case launched her Art Transfer Matrix at the Melbourne Art Fair in 2019, creating a ‘special art ATM’ from which she dispensed personalised drawings to customers equipped with a customised Jackie Case credit card. We are delighted that Case will be bringing the Art Transfer Matrix to the UK for the first time exclusively for visitors of the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery. (During the performance, Case, hidden within her custom-built ATM machine will produce ten-minute drawings for visitors). The performances will take place on Saturday 1 July 2023 from 11am until 12.30pm and 4pm until 5.30pm. Jackie Case has shown her work in multiple solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, London and New York. Her work has also been exhibited at numerous international art fairs across the globe. Case has published two collections of writings and drawings - Flying Penguins (2016) and With a Little Sprinkle of Courage (2023).
