Newchild Gallery presents Continuum, an exhibition with new works by Ella McVeigh and Konstantina Krikzoni. The artists share a common interest in the formal aspects of painting. Line, shape and colour are employed to create large canvases of gestural bravado.
Konstantina Krikzoni’s artistic exploration centres around intuitive examinations of feminine bodily forms, organic shapes, and enigmatic entities that exist in a realm between the figurative and the abstract. Working primarily with oils, acrylics and rubber, Krikzoni weaves together lines and shapes in multiple layers, alluding to the deconstruction of the female figure. Her large canvases feature spirit-like characters, feminine and unapologetically sensual.
Ella McVeigh’s purely abstract work represents an enduring exploration of line, colour, and form through meticulously detailed paintings and drawings. Her artistic practice captures the complexities of visual perception, resisting narrative interpretation. She perceives her painting process as a means of problem-solving, harmonizing chaos by blending natural and artificial structures seamlessly. Together, Krikzoni and McVeigh present in their distinctive language, compelling bodies of work that foster a look into the formalism of painting to discover two unique universes.
