For this exhibition, Turner-Prize winning artist Mark Wallinger has produced a new body of work that articulates Newton’s laws of motion.
The works draw on Newton’s experiments by using ink-covered marbles to trace motion: marking the straight lines of their initial explosive collisions to the curves formed by the loss of momentum occasioned by friction, spin, and air resistance.
The series is accompanied by three new video works that reflect on the area around St James Church where Newton lived, and a site-specific work that provides further dialogue with the Motion Studies.
