Join us for an evening with contemporary South African artist-potter Hylton Nel as we celebrate the opening of our brand-new exhibition ‘Hylton Nel: This plate is what I have to say’.
In a rare visit to the UK, Hylton Nel joins Charles Saumarez Smith—writer and author of ‘The Art Museum in Modern Times’—in conversation to reflect on a career spanning more than six decades, discuss his creative practice and share the inspiration behind his uniquely witty and idiosyncratic ceramics.
For Nel, who first began experimenting with ceramics in the 1960s, his creations are a vessel for sharing stories and personal life experiences. From global politics and religion to his beloved pets and recommended reads, no concept is too large or reference too small.
Book a combined ticket for discounted entry to the exhibition and discover more than 200 of the artist’s iconic plates, illustrated in his signature painterly style, displayed side by side.
