Evelyn Hofer once said “In reality, all we photographers photograph is ourselves in the other – all the time.” This major exhibition showcases Hofer’s sensitive portraiture, landscapes and still lives which remain under-recognised in the broader field. Hofer’s images poetically captured time and place without judgement, and her eclectic subjects anticipate William Eggleston, while nodding back towards August Sander. Born in Marburg, Germany in 1922, Evelyn Hofer and her family fled to Switzerland in 1933 to escape the Nazi regime.
