Cecilia Brunson Projects is delighted to present ‘Ahete ha yamaki rariprou’ (when we are close we all scream together), Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe’s first solo exhibition in the UK, in collaboration with ABRA Caracas.
Hakihiiwe is an indigenous artist from the headwaters of the Orinoco river deep in the Amazon forest. Living and working in Mahekoto-Teri (Platanal) Hakihiiwe’s drawings provide a testimony of Yanomami collective history, culture and knowledge. Hakihiiwe’s work is immersed in the intense Yanomami relationship with the jungle as it retrieves and preserves a part of the oral, graphic, cosmogonic and traditional memory binding the ancestral with the contemporary.
A booklet with an essay by Luis Romero has been published for the exhibition. There will be copies available at the gallery.
