Cynthia Corbett Gallery at London Art Fair 2022

20 Apr-24 Apr 2022

Cynthia Corbett Gallery
London .

Overview

Each year London Art Fair’s curated section Platform features invited galleries presenting artists whose work aligns to a single distinct theme. This year's theme is Music, and we are presenting a two-person curated project of British-Irish art historian, curator, ceramic & textile artist Matt Smith as well as British-American painter, collagist and photographer Andy Burgess.

Matt Smith's series of 31 ceramic pieces “Notes Of A Love Song“ debuted at the V&A in 2015 accompanied by Dimitrios Skyllas, the composer and performer who created his musical piece ABYSS in response to the artwork. This coming April, Dimitrios Skyllas will be performing a segment of the work as part of London Art Fair programme, and Matt Smith will be presenting a specially curated selection of the Notes.

Andy Burgess, whom we have represented since 2002, has long been collecting and repurposing vintage ephemeral through his practice with collage. We will be presenting primarily his vintage-inspired and historic ephemera collages as these are inspired by music, in particular, Jazz. For our curation Andy Burgess will collaborate with Jazz prodigy, Guildhall-trained Pianist & composer Rick Simpson at a special performance with more details to be announced.
