Almine Rech London is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by British-French artist Alice Anderson. HUMAN / NON-HUMAN INTERACTIONS will be Alice Anderson's first solo exhibition with the gallery.
'Human / Non-Human Interactions' describes Alice Anderson's animistic approach to technological objects and refers to a term used in computer programs (Human Machine Interface). Based in London, Alice Anderson’s oeuvre hybridises the worlds of technology and ancient cultures, whose worship and rituals involve turning tech objects into sacred objects, as a way of finding spirituality through developing technologies.
The exhibition will include Geometric Dances, which Anderson first developed in 2019 at Atelier Calder in France. In this series, Anderson uses a technological object to paint, ritualising paintings through the performance. Colours are applied directly into the object, forming oscillations of mechanical strokes, leaving a space at the centre of the canvas which signifies the space that the body has occupied during the artist’s dance-performances.
“Each object has a certain power that goes well beyond its simple primary function. I have always been bound to non-human entities. Objects have the power to interact amongst themselves as well as with us, using a universal language that I, intrinsically, find in dance. Dancing is a reconnection to the Nature that we have in us. We have to continue to lookout for new forms of society to be created between humans and non humans that anthropology and eco-feminism are particularly describing."
