Eliot Greenwald : In Fact

20 Nov-11 Dec 2020

Overview

This online show offers a new approach to Eliot’s personal narrative of the Night Car, the iconography of which repeats itself throughout his work. A driverless car moves through sci-fi landscapes, picking up passengers under the gaze of two identical planets. In this mythological loop, environments are dedicated to swallowing their inhabitants at night. Within the Night Car, the passengers undergo mutations and births only to inevitably return to the story’s beginning. Unlike Eliot’s previous works, here the angle of perception shifts from the third person view to one from inside the Night Car, looking out and forward. The viewer takes the place of the passenger, looks beyond the amazement, or confusion, or shock, or devastation with eyes toward the next destination. Eliot’s works celebrate the unrelenting ability of humans to love and imagine new solutions, thus reviving notions of progress. The title In Fact connects to this series, as these two words imply a sudden realization and a fundamental change in perception of reality and the world itself.
