The works shown here are studies of the painted and scratched windows of closed down storefronts that the artist began in the wake of the widespread closure of independent businesses and social disruption caused by the expansion of corporate retailing and online shopping. As if developed out of the legacy of action painting from the school of abstract expressionism, the works offer an experience of unfettered interaction and the traces of activity layered over time. Both a signifier of closure and a site of renewal, the surfaces become canvases that have been rigorously and anonymously worked on, consumed by diluted paint, incidental markings, drips, and instinctual gestures that reveal new realms of possibility.
