Jupiter Artland has commissioned artist Mary Hurrell to create a new performance on the occasion of Edinburgh Art Festival and Jupiter Rising, the Artland’s annual music, art and performance festival that coincides with the Edinburgh Art Festival’s closing weekend. Combining movement, sound and sculpture, Mary Hurrell (b.1982 South Africa) creates immersive and unsettling performances that distort and disturb the body. Hurrell’s site-specific work for Jupiter, will compose a movement of sound and choreography for the stage and Charles Jencks lakes. Water, with its attendant notions of fluidity, surface tension and wetness, is the starting point for UNDEX, which explores thresholds of human emotion and physical reflex.
