Overview

In "Forces Field" Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien creates poetic spaces, experimental ‘fields’ in which she places and manipulates disparate objects and materials derived from the universal popular culture and daily life, after having taken them out of their usual context of use. Hair, terracotta, raffia, copper pots scrubbers, resin, wood are weaved, threaded, moulded or constructed into ambiguous motifs and forms. She lays them out within the individual artworks and the small installations that make the exhibition so that they appear either in tension or in interconnection with each other. Active systems are created, in which opposite or complementary ‘forces’- the erotic and the mundane, the constrained and the free, the powerful and the humble- are at work.
