We are excited to announce the unveiling of a new work by Texta Queen, which will fill the facade of our new building in Holborn, from 27 October. The commission will be visible to passersby from end of October, and we hope you will come by to see it. TextaQueen’s work makes use of the felt-tip pen (known in Australia as ‘textas’) to create empowering portraits of fictionalised and reimagined figures who embody decolonial, intersectional and queer narratives. ‘The Universal Experience’ imagines an eruption of ancestral magic from the British Museum, a purge which is heralded by three effervescent superheroes soaring above London. The streets are flooded in a healing current of liberation, as people of colour across the world connect in love, hope and revolution. Signalling Mimosa House's relocation, TextaQueen’s commission opens up a new chapter of programming in the ongoing context of the pandemic, and an opportunity to continue communicating our mission of supporting female and queer artists and communities.
