Jerome Flinders is a practicing architect and artist living and working in London. His drawings form part of an ongoing project, Eden Decayed that depicts an Arcadian community inhabiting a scorched landscape This exceptional collection of drawings represents an alternative apotheosis for the age of technology. The drawings depict the buildings of a future society with simple desires – for carpentry, landscape and weather. The conventional sci-fi idiom of flying cars and dense cities is replaced by a vision of a super-charged but semi-rural culture. The highly laboured drawing style itself indicates affection for slowness-of-pace and devotion-like dedication to unpredictable endeavours, all slightly at odds with current notions of modernity.
