Carlie Simpkin : ‘The Mechanics of Depression’

4 Nov-13 Nov 2016

Hundred Years Gallery
London E2 8JD

Overview

Hundred Years Gallery is proud to present the first solo show by UK-based artist Carlie Simpkin. The Mechanics of Depression features ten new works by the artist on the subject of this particular affliction. The exhibition proudly supports the charity ‘Rethink Mental Illness’ and invites the public to contribute towards the organization using the donation boxes available at the space. Carlie Simpkin recently graduated from the University For The Creative Arts, in Farnham. She now works at her home studio in the South East. The exhibition ‘The Mechanics of Depression’ is the result of a long period of gestation by the artist. She feels it is time to open this work to the public, piecing together a carefully selected portfolio for the show. The works reflect upon the complex nature of the illness; the feelings of hopelessness, the fatigue, the emptiness, the isolation and the silence. By directly involving the symptoms of depression within the work, the show offers an honest and meaningful look at how depression functions and its devastating impact.
